Andrew Chadwick appointed law school dean
BPP University Law School has officially unveiled its new dean and CEO, while industry rumours suggest its outgoing boss could be poised to join The University of Law (ULaw).
Andrew Chadwick (pictured below), who joined BPP Law School as deputy dean in 2012, has been elevated to the top spot following the departure of Peter Crisp last month.
Interestingly Chadwick, a former litigation solicitor, made the switch to BPP having spent 19 years in various management roles at rival law school ULaw (then the College of Law (CoL)). At the time of his departure, Chadwick was the director of CoL’s Moorgate branch in London.
Commenting on his appointment as dean of BPP Law School, Chadwick said:
I am delighted with my new appointment as the leader of BPP University Law School. The institution has over 20 years of experience in delivering professional legal qualifications and I take personal pleasure in the role we play in shaping the legal profession by equipping our students with all they need to become lawyers of the future.
Chadwick’s predecessor, Crisp, joined the law school as a tutor on the Bar Vocational Course (the Bar Professional Training Course’s predecessor) in August 1997. The former 11 Stone Buildings barrister rapidly rose up the BPP ranks and became its head honcho in 2003.
So where to next for Crisp?
Well, if industry rumours are to be believed, it might be BPP’s competitor, ULaw. Legal Cheek has heard from three separate sources within the market who claim Crisp has been offered the senior position at the law school giant.
The tittle-tattle was subsequently picked up by legal newsletter The Brief. It suggested that Crisp could be drafted in to “reinvigorate” ULaw’s appeal among City law firms, but it noted: “Crisp is thought to be contractually obliged by BPP to stay in his garden for at least a year.”
