Pride 2016: Lawyers take to London’s streets to celebrate LGBTI rights

Legal professionals were among the tens of thousands parade-goers to hit London’s streets over the weekend, to celebrate and champion lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) rights.

The annual Pride celebration took over central London on Saturday and once again lawyers from across the country were out in force.

Championing LGBTI rights across the profession, barristers and solicitors proudly marched behind a purple banner that read “#LawWithNoFilter, all are equal under the law”. A social media campaign headed up by the Law Society encouraged legal professionals to tweet selfies holding a sign with their name, job title, and LGBT or ally identity.

Law Society president Jonathan Smithers and chief executive Catherine Dixon were both in attendance.

Bar Council chair Chantal-Aimée Doerries QC was spotted alongside two wigged-up members of the profession soaking up the carnival atmosphere.

Legal professionals were joined by other parade-goers, which in turn, produced some interesting photographs.

And of course it wouldn’t be Pride without a dog in a wig.

LGBTI rights champion and No.5 Chambers barrister S Chelvan was also in attendance.

And not even the impending threat of rain could dampen spirits.
