Mayer Brown’s trainee solicitors share their exam preparation wisdom
Alex: take photos of your notes
“Keep photos of your consolidated revision notes on your phone or iPad, that way you are able to revise wherever you are.”
Liam: look after your brain
“Law exams are a real test of memory so make sure you look after your brain. Have a good breakfast, make sure you take lots of breaks and get a good sleep.”
Michelle: colour code your notes
“If you’re a visual person, it really helps to colour code notes. I would break it down into case law, explanation of principles and legislation.”
Poppy: use acronyms
“Use acronyms to help you remember case names and key points.”
Catherina: consolidate and plan
“Consolidate your notes after small group sessions and plan your revision time appropriately for the LPC.”
Luiza: use a revision timetable
“A revision timetable will help you to structure your revision and keep you motivated with fun breaks and activities, and will ensure you cover everything you need to in the time you have available.”
Annabelle: take advantage of your law tutors
“During the law school revision period, do not be afraid of asking your tutors for help. You will be surprised at how accommodating they will be.”
Alice: practice, practice, practice
“Do as many practice papers as you can under timed conditions from start to finish so you know how much time you’ll have in the exam.”
George: cover your walls
“My revision tip would be to post your notes up around your bedroom or your living room using sticky tape, and that way you can take in notes throughout the day as you’re doing mundane tasks like getting changed and getting ready to get the train in the morning.”
