He had not been seen since February
A second year London law student has been found dead in Slovenia.
Domen Simonic — a 20 year-old student at Queen Mary University of London — went missing in late February after he took a trip to Slovenia to visit family and friends during his reading week.
His father, Ervin Simonic, told the press that the aspiring lawyer had been out in Maribor, the second largest city in Slovenia. It was here that his body was identified.
Last Thursday evening, the Facebook page set up to promote the search effort announced, in Slovenian, that a body found that morning had been identified as Simonic. The group — which attracted nearly 4,500 likes — promptly changed its cover photo to a photo of the student next to a candle, with “1995-2016” in white writing. No updates have been posted on his gofundme page, which raised £1,300.
Valsamis Mitsilegas, head of the department of law and professor of European criminal law at Queen Mary University of London, told Legal Cheek:
On Thursday, we received the very sad news through his family that Domen Simonic’s body has been identified in Maribor, Slovenia.
He continued:
Domen was an excellent student, a loyal and much-loved friend, and a valued member of the QMUL student community. Our thoughts and hearts go out to his family and friends at this very difficult time.
