International law firm King & Wood Mallesons hosts debate about impact of proposed changes that could revolutionise legal education and training
The London office of international firm King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) is holding a debate to get students’ views about plans to scrap the GDL and LPC and bring in a new solicitor super-exam.
An audience of 30 students and junior lawyers will grill a panel of experts — made up of Solicitors Regulatory Authority training boss Julie Brannan, BPP University Law School director of LPC programmes Jo-Anne Pugh, KWM head of talent David Ball, and Sarah Hutchinson, chair of the Academic and Professional Development Committee of the International Bar Association and managing director of Barbri — on the proposed changes.
Will the mooted overhaul of traditional vocational legal education from next year save students time and money? Will it promote diversity? Or is there a risk that the changes simply devalue the solicitor qualification while creating pointless upheaval?
The free session takes place from 6-7pm on Wednesday 24 February at KWM’s London headquarters. Afterwards there will be drinks and networking.
