Elite magic-circle law firm Slaughter and May has a jukebox in its office — but what do the practice’s top-flight and hard-pressed lawyers listen to?
Those who don’t frequent the plush offices of Slaughter and May opposite the University of Law in London’s Bunhill Row may be interested to know that situated in the corner of the pukka firm’s canteen is a jukebox.
The colourful glowing machine (pictured above) — which is like a giant iPod for our younger readership — was, according to a Legal Cheek insider, gifted to the firm by a former client several years ago.
A spokesperson for Slaughter and May told Legal Cheek:
The jukebox doesn’t get used anymore, although it’s in perfect working order.
It appears the jukebox hasn’t been updated in a while, as the spokesperson for the firm continued:
There’s an eclectic mix on there: albums from Supertramp, The Rolling Stones, Queen and The Police; and singles from Johnny Cash (I Walk The Line), Jerry Lee Lewis (Great Balls Of Fire), The Jive Five (At The Front Door) and Ritchie Valens (La Bamba).
It’s worth noting that Supertramp’s seminal 1974 album was entitled “Crime of the Century”, potentially suggesting that the S&M deal-makers harbour a secret hankering to be defending jewel thieves and murderers.
Legal Cheek has compiled its own list of musical additions that will no doubt resonate with lawyers at Slaughters.
