Hollywood film-making legend George Lucas was unable to enjoy unoffical Star Wars day — because he spent the afternoon waiting to perform his civic duty

As fans marked May 4 — the unofficial Star Wars day — social media was awash with tributes to the franchised film phenomenon.

However, one Imgur user’s post went viral yesterday with a shared a photo. The messenger claimed to be sitting next to the brainchild of the sci-fi hit, George Lucas, who was of all things attending jury selection.

Clearly oblivious to the May 4 Star Wars mania, the billionaire film producer can be seen leafing through the New York Times as he patiently waits with other potential jurors.

The photo — which has been viewed more than half a million times since yesterday — was taken inside the Marin Civic Centre in San Rafael, California, which is just over the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. Indeed, the court complex wouldn’t look out of place on the set of one of Lucas’s films.

Unfortunately, on this occasion the film producer wasn’t selected as a jury member for the nine-month trial.

Lucas is not the only famous face to be called recently for jury service. Last summer, a video emerged of Laurence Tureaud — better known for his role as Mr T in hit 1980s television series The A-Team — attending court. Like Lucas, Tureaud wasn’t picked as a juror.
