It was a more polite world in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War.
BBC guidelines from 1948 (pictured above) illustrate how Auntie’s staff were discouraged from making derogatory references to solicitors. Good luck with such a policy today — lawyer jokes are two a penny across all broadcasters.
