‘Lawyer Cat’ goes viral on image sharing site Imgur overnight, ending legal profession’s two-year viral meme drought.
Fans of law and social media will, of course, be familiar with Lawyer Dog, the meme that swept the internet in 2012 after first appearing on Tumblr in 2011.
At the time, many expected the viral legal corgi creation to be just the first of many law-based memes that would achieve mainstream recognition. But subsequent attempts to marry the animal kingdom and the legal world in an ultra-sharable image proved unsuccessful. So instead legal meme creators busied themselves applying law-themed scenarios to established meme templates.
The Law School Memes Facebook page has led the way in this burgeoning art form. Established in April 2012, the page now has over 72,000 likes.
But Lawyer Cat threatens to change everything. Since being posted on Imgur under the headline ‘Lawyer Cat is busy’ at around 1pm UK time yesterday, the image has had 588,444 views, appearing for several hours on the front page of the site.
The user who uploaded the photo, ‘francothefish‘, says the cat belongs to his friend. He wrote on Reddit earlier today of his surprise at the popularity of his creation.
