Finally, it’s here.
To recap, here is the original Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song.
And here is the equity & trusts version, as posted on a law school Facebook study group by an anonymous student blessed with a touch of genius.
The Fresh Prince of Equitable Remedies
Now, this is the story all about how
Trusts got flipped-turned upside down
And I’d like to take minute, just sit right there
I’ll tell you how I learned the history of equitable remedies
In Westdeutsche Landesbank, trusts not born but raised
On the courtroom is where it spends many a day
Litigants in, chattin’, avoiding the taxin’
And all throwin’ down maxims outside courtroom door
When a couple of magistrates up to no good
Not leaving any justice in the neighbourhood
Got in one little jam and the Lord Chancellor got scared
And said, “There’s gonna be courts for common and equitable remedies”
Everyone begged and pleaded with him
So he packed up the other law and sent it on the way
He gave just a word and then gave us chancery
I put down my case files and said, “I might as well roll with it”
First instance, yo this is rad
Getting remedies from the reign of King Eddy the first
Is this what the laws gonna be like?
Hmmm, this might be alright!
But wait this ain’t a replacement, just a different statement
Is this the type of law that’s gonna pass without flaw?
Nobody thinks so, but will know as time go
Hope they’re prepared for a new King of Equitable Remedies
Well, the court’s established and we all look cool
Dudes looking mad not knowing law’s to learn in school
Ain’t tryin’ to make people mad, just got this law
Sprang it up with maxims like ‘clean hands’, and moved
Whistling for legal advice, and when it came near
The barrister said “Cy-pres?” and had silver in his spoon
If anything ya could say this guy was rare
Thinking, nah forget it, you can serve my equitable remedies
Pulled up the court about seven or eight
Yelled to the QC, “Yo homes, fees in the post”
Looked at this kingdom, finally there
To be a King of Equitable Remedies
