In October we reported on a US law graduate’s bid to pay off his massive debts via an appeal on crowdfunding platform Indiegogo. The deadline for the ‘Save Nick’ campaign expired over the weekend. So how much did Nick Freilich (pictured below) raise?
The news isn’t good, with Georgetown University law school graduate Freilich, 30, pulling in just $735 (£459) of his $75,000 (£47,000) target.
Readers of our original report may recall that Freilich – who decided he didn’t want to be a lawyer mid-way through his studies and is now intent on pursuing a career in the arts – offered various packages in return for donations. These ranged from a “personalised email and picture” (costing $5), to the opportunity to tattoo Freilich with a logo of your choice (priced at a rather dearer $2,500).
In the end, no one took up this extreme latter option, with the lower end packages proving the most popular. According to the funders inventory of Freilich’s Indiegogo page, sales of his photos, poems and copies of “Epicte, a 12-track album which I released in 2007, [which] is like nothing you’ve ever heard before” made a total of $325. The remaining $410 came through straightforward donations.
The backstory to the campaign is explained in the video below.
