Exclusive: As it records disappointing autumn retention result
International firm Squire Patton Boggs has increased its London and regional newly qualified (NQ) salaries by 10% and 5% respectively.
Until recently, those qualifying into the firm’s London office started on a not too shabby £62,000, the salary paid to NQs at Bird & Bird, Addleshaw Goddard, HFW and Trowers & Hamlins too.
Now, Legal Cheek can reveal the firm has boosted this figure by 10%. Leapfrogging the likes of Clyde & Co (£63,000), Eversheds Sutherland (£64,000) and CMS (£67,500), Squire Patton Boggs now pays its NQs £68,000.
The 46-office firm hasn’t neglected its regional NQs either. Those qualifying in Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester will earn £42,000, a 5% rise from the global outfit’s previous offering of £40,000.
Money aside, Squire Patton Boggs has now joined the likes of Freshfields, Dentons, Taylor Wessing, Mishcon de Reya and Browne Jacobson in revealing a retention result in the 60s.
The outfit, which offers around 25 training contracts a year, has confirmed a rate of 65%. However, it remained tightlipped over the size of its September cohort and the number of offers made.
This retention news comes just one day after Legal Cheek reported City firms HFW and Charles Russell Speechlys had too posted their rates. For recently rebranded HFW, it was a score of 80%, while Charles Russell revealed 71%.
