And lands sports writing gig with a national newspaper
A junior lawyer has left magic circle law firm Slaughter and May after putting pen to paper on a professional football contract with Italian giant Juventus.
Eniola Aluko, who until recently was an associate consultant in Slaughters’ corporate team, signed for the Serie A club in June. Slaughters confirmed to Legal Cheek this morning that the 31-year-old striker left the firm earlier this summer.
The Brunel University London law grad completed the accelerated Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the College of Law (now The University of Law) in Moorgate and qualified as a solicitor in 2015. According to her LinkedIn, Aluko joined Slaughters in 2016 and assisted “on a range of corporate, M&A and sports governance matters”.
Legal achievements aside, Aluko is also an accomplished professional footballer. Prior to joining Juventus, Aluko spent six successful years at Chelsea, racking up 32 goals in 73 appearances, and has represented the England national team at both European and world championships.
It’s been a busy few months for Aluko. Earlier this summer, Legal Cheek reported that Aluko had jetted off to Russia having secured a World Cup punditry role for ITV. Impressing viewers with her in-depth analysis, Aluko confirmed last week she had subsequently signed a deal with The Guardian newspaper to write a sports column.
Commenting on her new journalism gig, Aluko said:
“I am really pleased to be doing a regular opinion column with The Guardian and sharing all my views and experiences on women’s football, the Premier League, the EFL and football administration. I’ll also be sharing a little of what life is like at The Old Lady [Juventus].”
