A fitting Valentine’s Day tale
A married couple who met on their first day of law school have shared their love story with the world.
Fittingly for Valentine’s Day, Michael Gallacher has told the public he laid eyes on future wife Gemma while registering for his law degree at De Montfort University. The pair — who now both work at big four accountancy firm EY — first spoke at a constitutional and administrative law lecture.
Soon after the pair became close friends, with Michael admitting his soon-to-be girlfriend — who used to work at Berwin Leighton Paisner — put in more hours in the library than he did. He said:
She would still be there after I had finished my study and headed out.
It wasn’t until they’d both graduated from the East Midlands university that they began dating. The rest is history: they married in 2013 and have a young son. The couple live together in New York, where he is a VAT senior manager at EY and she a senior associate.
Gemma and Michael join a list of loved up lawyers to go public with their romance; there’s been a whole host in The Times’ ‘Marriages and Engagements’ section.
These include Herbert Smith Freehills solicitors Yuji and Stephen. They married in London’s Square Mile, which featured Yuji in Jimmy Choo heels and “aggressive dancing” from the wedding guests.
Then there was Olivia, general counsel at Creston plc, and her solicitor hubby Rob, who struggled to find a honeymoon destination where neither of them had been before. Fear not, they eventually agreed on Guetemala and Belize.
