Trusted family friend murdered aspiring barrister in August 2015
A man has been jailed for at least 27 years for the murder and rape of a former Herbert Smith Freehills paralegal in her family home.
Elizabeth Nnyanzi (pictured above), 31, from Harrow, held aspirations of becoming a barrister, before she was attacked and strangled in her bedroom.
Lying to both police and Nnyanzi’s family, Peter Kibisu (pictured below), 24, texted his dead victim in an attempt to establish a cover story, evening going as far as planting evidence to make it look like an intruder had entered the home, according to the Evening Standard.
Despite the Nnyanzi’s family providing a home for Kibisu when he had nowhere else to go, he eventually admitted to police that he had murdered and raped Nnyanzi.
Nnyanzi — who had completed an internship at personal injury outfit Leigh Day earlier that year — went on to land a temporary position as a paralegal at global legal giant Herbert Smith Freehills.
Sentencing Kibisu at the Old Bailey earlier today, the Common Serjeant of London, Richard Marks QC told the former BMW mechanic:
What you did was truly shocking. Your acts were those of unspeakable wickedness and it’s frankly hard to consider how you could have done that to anybody still less a young woman like her who was to all intents and purposes family.
Having originally studied medicine at Imperial College London, Nnyanzi made the switch to law, inspired by her Ugandan solicitor father.
