‘The Highest Court in the Land’
‘The Highest Court in the Land’ is the appropriate name given to this basketball court situated on the fifth floor of the United States Supreme Court building in Washington DC.
The former storage unit sits a full three floors above the actual courtroom which can be found on the second floor — hence its nickname.
Apparently, several Supreme Court Justices have taken to playing b-ball in their downtime as a method of unwinding and remaining fit — and it’s not uncommon for a little one-on-one action between a justice and clerk to occur.
The facility is open to all court staff, but would-be players are warned to ensure they aren’t shooting hoops during a court-sitting day, and not to assume court is not in session.
