The Kingdom of Tonga — a Commonwealth member — is looking to fill its vacant Lord Chief Justice position. Comments by the previous incumbent of the role, Lord Chief Justice Dishington Scott, indicate that applicants should be relaxed about fellow judges failing to “turn up to work every day”.
During his tenure as Tonga’s top lawyer between 2010-2014, Justice Scott is on the record praising a colleague for “the fact that he turns up to work every day,” adding: “Quite a number of our other staff aren’t quite as good at that as he is…” Here is the clip on Instagram:
