Freshfields: ‘no confidential material used’ by trainee who sold ‘inside tips’ to magic circle hopefuls

Magic circle giant Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has concluded its investigation into the trainee behind controversial website NailThatTrainingContract.co.uk.

Despite the trainee in question’s boast to offer “inside tips” taken from “real interviews and HR documents”, alongside a commercial awareness “cheat-sheet”, Freshfields says that it is satisfied that “no confidential material was ever prepared or used.”

The firm added that the “individual concerned has willingly taken down the site”. For those curious to see how it looked, a cached version remains.

NailThatTrainingContract.co.uk, which was first registered on 23 May, sold TC interview advice for between £35-£150.

In the ‘About Me’ section of the site, its author boasted: “I’m a current trainee at a Magic Circle firm. I attended a Russell Group University and did not graduate too long ago. You’ve got access to real application answers that I submitted, you don’t think I can really tell you who I am?!”

But the Freshfields rookie didn’t realise how easy it is to find out who websites ending in “.co.uk” are registered to.
